Herb seeds FAQs

Which herbs can I grow in pots?
Many herbs suit containers, including basil, parsley and chives. Choose a pot with drainage and enough space for the mature plant, and follow the variety’s growing guidance.
When should I sow herb seeds in Australia?
Sowing times depend on the herb and your local climate. Check the individual seed instructions rather than following one calendar for every Australian region.
Can I grow herbs indoors?
Yes, if the position provides enough light for the chosen herb. A grow light may help in dim rooms. Use draining pots and avoid keeping roots waterlogged.
How long do herb seeds take to germinate?
Timing varies by species and conditions. Some emerge quickly while others take several weeks. Follow the packet’s expected germination time and keep the growing medium suitably moist.
Should I sow herbs directly or use seedling trays?
It depends on the herb. Follow the variety’s directions for sowing depth and transplanting; some herbs are better sown where they will grow.
