Care information

Proper storage and handling can help maintain seed quality and germination performance. Keep seeds sealed, dry and protected from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.

Storage: For best long-term storage, keep seeds refrigerated in a clean, airtight container or securely sealed packaging. A refrigerator at approximately 4°C provides a cool, stable environment that can help maintain seed viability. If refrigeration is not practical, store seeds in the coolest available dry, dark and temperature-stable location.

Moisture: Keep seeds dry at all times during storage. Excess moisture or humidity can reduce seed quality and encourage premature germination, mould or deterioration. Always reseal opened packaging promptly.

Removing Seeds from Refrigeration: Keep refrigerated seeds sealed while they return to room temperature before opening the package or container. This helps prevent condensation from forming on cold seeds and introducing unwanted moisture.

Temperature: Avoid repeated temperature changes and do not store seeds near ovens, heaters, windows, vehicles, sheds or other areas exposed to excessive or fluctuating heat.

Handling: Use clean, dry utensils when removing seed from larger packs and return the remaining seed to refrigerated storage promptly after use.

Before Sowing or Sprouting: Inspect seeds before use and discard any showing signs of moisture damage, mould, unusual odour or deterioration. When growing edible sprouts or microgreens, use clean equipment and drinking-quality water.

Best Quality: Use seed while fresh and follow any product-specific storage, germination and growing information provided in the Specifications, growing instructions or product packaging.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your order size and weight, delivery address and available carrier services. We use Australia Post and other carriers to provide suitable delivery options and rates.

Dispatch

Orders are generally packed and dispatched within 0–2 business days (Monday–Friday), excluding public holidays and unusually busy periods.

Delivery Times

Delivery times begin from the date your order is dispatched. As a general guide, Australia Post Parcel Post usually takes 2–6 business days, while Express Post generally takes 1–3 business days where available.

Regional and remote destinations may take longer. Orders containing seed sent to Western Australia, Tasmania or other biosecurity-controlled destinations may also require additional processing or inspection.

Delivery estimates are provided as a guide only and can be affected by carrier delays, weather, peak periods and biosecurity requirements.

All shipped orders include tracking. Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive an email with your tracking information so you can follow its progress.

Authority to Leave

Depending on the carrier and delivery service, your parcel may be left in a safe location if no one is available to receive it. You can provide delivery instructions during checkout where supported by the carrier; however, specific delivery requests cannot always be guaranteed.

Russian Tarragon Herb Seeds for Fresh Aromatic Leaves

Russian Tarragon Herb Seeds grow into vigorous perennial herbs with narrow green leaves and a mild aromatic flavour with subtle anise and liquorice notes. Russian Tarragon is a hardy, productive herb suited to garden beds, larger containers and sunny herb gardens.

Use freshly harvested leaves with fish, poultry, eggs, potatoes, vegetables, soups, sauces, salads and savoury dishes. The flavour is milder than French Tarragon, making Russian Tarragon useful where a gentler tarragon character is preferred.

Russian Tarragon vs French Tarragon

Russian Tarragon is grown readily from seed and develops into a vigorous perennial plant. Its flavour is generally milder and less intense than French Tarragon, which is traditionally prized for its stronger culinary aroma but is normally propagated vegetatively rather than from seed.

For customers wanting to grow tarragon directly from seed, Russian Tarragon provides a practical and hardy option for the home herb garden.

Hardy Perennial for Garden Beds & Containers

Russian Tarragon develops into a tall, branching perennial herb and can return for multiple growing seasons once established. Plants perform best in full sun to partial shade with moist but freely draining soil.

Allow approximately 50cm between plants so established plants have room to branch and develop. Russian Tarragon can become a substantial herb, so larger containers are preferable where it is not being grown directly in the garden.

Best Started as Seedlings

For reliable establishment, sow the seed shallowly in trays or small pots and transplant seedlings once they are strong enough to handle. Sow approximately 1mm deep and maintain consistent moisture without waterlogging the growing medium.

Under suitable conditions, germination generally occurs in approximately 10–14 days at around 15–20°C.

Harvest Fresh Tarragon Through the Growing Season

Russian Tarragon is generally ready for useful harvesting from approximately 90–110 days after sowing. Harvest outer leaves and tender stems as required while leaving enough healthy foliage for continued growth.

How to Grow Russian Tarragon

Russian Tarragon is a vigorous perennial culinary herb with narrow aromatic leaves and a mild anise-like flavour. It is readily grown from seed and performs best in a sunny position with moist but well-drained soil.

Russian vs French Tarragon

Growing Russian Tarragon in Pots

Russian Tarragon can be grown in containers, but established plants need more room than compact culinary herbs.

20 litres or larger

Move into a larger container if the plant becomes crowded.
