Care information

Proper storage and handling can help maintain seed quality and germination performance. Keep seeds sealed, dry and protected from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.

Storage: For best long-term storage, keep seeds refrigerated in a clean, airtight container or securely sealed packaging. A refrigerator at approximately 4°C provides a cool, stable environment that can help maintain seed viability. If refrigeration is not practical, store seeds in the coolest available dry, dark and temperature-stable location.

Moisture: Keep seeds dry at all times during storage. Excess moisture or humidity can reduce seed quality and encourage premature germination, mould or deterioration. Always reseal opened packaging promptly.

Removing Seeds from Refrigeration: Keep refrigerated seeds sealed while they return to room temperature before opening the package or container. This helps prevent condensation from forming on cold seeds and introducing unwanted moisture.

Temperature: Avoid repeated temperature changes and do not store seeds near ovens, heaters, windows, vehicles, sheds or other areas exposed to excessive or fluctuating heat.

Handling: Use clean, dry utensils when removing seed from larger packs and return the remaining seed to refrigerated storage promptly after use.

Before Sowing or Sprouting: Inspect seeds before use and discard any showing signs of moisture damage, mould, unusual odour or deterioration. When growing edible sprouts or microgreens, use clean equipment and drinking-quality water.

Best Quality: Use seed while fresh and follow any product-specific storage, germination and growing information provided in the Specifications, growing instructions or product packaging.

Delivery estimates are provided as a guide only and can be affected by carrier delays, weather, peak periods and biosecurity requirements.

Tracking

All shipped orders include tracking. Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive an email with your tracking information so you can follow its progress.

Authority to Leave

Depending on the carrier and delivery service, your parcel may be left in a safe location if no one is available to receive it. You can provide delivery instructions during checkout where supported by the carrier; however, specific delivery requests cannot always be guaranteed.

Local Pickup – Riverstone, NSW

Seed Biosecurity – WA & Tasmania

Seeds and other plant material may be subject to state biosecurity restrictions.

Western Australia has specific entry requirements for seed, and seed consignments may be inspected by Quarantine WA. Tasmania also regulates the importation of viable seed, with additional requirements applying to certain species and consignments.

Requirements vary by seed species, quantity and destination and may change over time. Customers in Western Australia, Tasmania and other biosecurity-controlled areas should check current state requirements before ordering.

Where an order contains seed that cannot meet applicable biosecurity requirements, we may need to contact you before dispatch or remove affected products from the order.

White Pea Sprouting Seeds – Australian Field Peas

Grow sweet, crunchy white pea sprouts with Australian-grown field peas. Also ideal for cooking, pea shoots, microgreens and milling into pea flour, with bulk sizes Australia-wide.

Description

White Pea Sprouting Seeds for Sweet, Crunchy Sprouts

Grow substantial, crunchy sprouts at home with our white pea sprouting seeds. Whole white field peas produce firm young sprouts with a mild, slightly sweet and earthy pea flavour and are generally ready to harvest in approximately 3 days.

These large peas expand considerably after soaking and are well suited to growing in a glass sprouting jar or suitable sprouter. Regular rinsing, thorough drainage and good airflow help produce crisp, evenly developed sprouts.

Crunchy White Pea Sprouts

White pea sprouts have a firm, substantial texture and familiar fresh-pea flavour. They work particularly well in salads, wraps, grain bowls, soups, stir-fries and other savoury meals where you want more bite than delicate leafy sprouts such as alfalfa or clover.

Shorter sprouts generally provide the firmest texture and strongest fresh-pea character, making white peas particularly useful for hearty legume sprout mixes.

Create a Crunchy Pea, Chickpea & Lentil Sprout Mix

White peas combine well with other large sprouting legumes. Try them with Brown Pea Sprouting Seeds, Chickpea Sprouting Seeds or Red Lentil Sprouting Seeds for a varied mix of firm, crunchy sprouts.

White peas can also be combined with blue peas and other compatible whole lentils. When growing a mixed batch, keep the total quantity of dry seed conservative because peas and chickpeas expand considerably after soaking, and always leave enough room for thorough drainage and airflow.

Cook White Field Peas as a Dried Pulse

White field peas do not need to be sprouted before use. The whole dried peas can also be soaked and thoroughly cooked until tender for soups, stews, curries, casseroles, savoury mash and other pulse-based dishes.

White field peas have a pale seed coat with a yellow interior and are also commonly processed into split peas. Cooked whole peas develop a soft, hearty texture and can be served whole, mashed or incorporated into savoury fillings and other recipes.

Mill White Peas into Pea Flour

Dry white field peas can also be milled using suitable grain-processing equipment to produce pea flour. Use it in savoury batters, flatbreads, crackers and other suitable recipes, either on its own where appropriate or blended with other flours.

Other Growing Uses

The same viable seed can also be grown beyond the short sprout stage as pea shoots or microgreens, or planted in suitable conditions and grown towards maturity.

This product page is primarily focused on short white pea sprouts grown in a jar or sprouter.

How to Grow White Pea Sprouts

White field peas are large sprouting seeds that absorb considerable water and expand during soaking. Allow plenty of room in the jar and maintain thorough drainage and good airflow throughout growing.

What You Need

  • Approximately 5 tablespoons / around 60g of white pea seed
  • A clean 500ml wide-mouth glass jar or suitable sprouter
  • A sprouting lid or draining screen
  • A draining stand, rack or bowl
  • Clean, drinking-quality water

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Clean your equipment: Wash your hands and thoroughly clean the jar, lid and utensils before starting.
  2. Measure the seed: Add approximately 5 tablespoons of white field peas to a 500ml sprouting jar. Remove any visibly damaged, split or deteriorated peas.
  3. Rinse and soak: Rinse thoroughly, cover generously with clean drinking-quality water and soak for approximately 8–12 hours.
  4. Drain thoroughly: Discard the soaking water, rinse again and drain completely.
  5. Position for drainage: Keep the jar tilted with the opening facing downward so excess water can escape and air can circulate.
  6. Rinse regularly: Rinse and thoroughly drain the developing sprouts approximately 2–3 times daily.
  7. Maintain suitable conditions: Keep the jar in a well-ventilated position away from hot direct sunlight. A growing temperature of approximately 10–22°C is suitable.
  8. Watch for germination: Small white roots should begin emerging as the peas germinate.
  9. Harvest: White pea sprouts are generally ready in approximately 3 days, although they can be allowed to develop slightly longer according to your preferred sprout length.

Make a Crunchy Pea & Lentil Sprout Mix

White peas can be grown together with other compatible peas and large legumes.

A practical starting mix for a 500ml jar is:

  • 1 tablespoon white peas
  • 1 tablespoon chickpeas
  • 1 tablespoon whole red lentils

You can also substitute some of the white peas with brown or blue peas to vary the flavour, appearance and texture.

  1. Combine the dry seeds and rinse thoroughly.
  2. Soak together for approximately 8–12 hours.
  3. Drain completely.
  4. Rinse and thoroughly drain approximately 2–3 times each day.
  5. Keep the jar tilted between rinses to maintain drainage and airflow.
  6. Begin checking the crop from around day 3.
  7. Harvest when the different varieties have germinated well and reached the texture you prefer.

Because peas and chickpeas expand substantially, keep the total amount of dry seed modest rather than adding a full single-variety quantity of each seed.

Tips for Best Results

  • Do not overcrowd the jar.
  • Peas expand considerably after soaking.
  • Drain completely after every rinse.
  • Do not leave standing water around the developing sprouts.
  • Maintain good airflow throughout germination.
  • Shorter sprouts generally have the firmest texture.
  • Mixed pea and lentil batches work best when the varieties have broadly similar soaking and harvest requirements.
  • Discard sprouts that become slimy, show obvious mould or decay, or develop a sour, rotten or unusually musty smell.

Harvest & Storage

Give the finished sprouts a final thorough rinse and drain them as completely as practical.

Transfer the well-drained sprouts to a clean covered container and refrigerate promptly.

Use while fresh and discard them if their appearance, smell or texture deteriorates.

Cooking White Field Peas

Whole dried white peas can also be cooked without sprouting.

  1. Sort and rinse the peas.
  2. Soak for approximately 8–12 hours.
  3. Discard the soaking water and rinse again.
  4. Cover with fresh water.
  5. Simmer until completely tender.

Use cooked peas in soups, stews, curries, casseroles, savoury mash and other pulse-based dishes.

Food Safety

Raw sprouts can carry harmful bacteria even when carefully grown at home.

Always use clean equipment and drinking-quality water, maintain thorough drainage and refrigerate harvested sprouts promptly.

People at increased risk from foodborne illness, including pregnant women, young children, some older people and people with compromised immunity, should avoid raw or lightly cooked sprouts.

Thorough cooking reduces the food-safety risk associated with raw sprouts.
