Fresh Sunflower Microgreens – Grown to Order
Our fresh sunflower microgreens are available on a grow-to-order basis. Rather than keeping pre-packed microgreens in regular stock, we grow fresh crops specifically for confirmed orders and harvest them at the young microgreen stage.
Sunflower microgreens produce thick, crisp stems and broad green leaves with a fresh, mildly sweet and nutty sunflower flavour. Their substantial texture makes them one of the more robust microgreens and a useful addition to salads, sandwiches, wraps and bowls.
How to Order Fresh Sunflower Microgreens
Fresh sunflower microgreens need to be ordered in advance and are not maintained as a ready-to-ship stock item.
To place an order, email admin@ozsprout.com.au with the quantity you require. We will confirm your order requirements, availability and expected timing before your crop is grown.
If you require microgreens for a café, restaurant, catering business, event or regular supply arrangement, include your preferred quantity and required date when contacting us.
Crisp Texture with a Mild Nutty Flavour
Sunflower microgreens are known for their thick, succulent stems, broad green cotyledon leaves and distinctive crunchy texture. Their flavour is mild, fresh and slightly sweet with a subtle nuttiness characteristic of sunflower seed.
Use them fresh in salads, sandwiches, wraps and grain bowls, or add them to savoury dishes immediately before serving. Their firmer texture also makes them suitable for combining with softer leafy greens and other microgreens.
Young Sunflower Greens Harvested Fresh
Sunflower microgreens are grown from sunflower seed in trays and harvested above the growing medium once the cotyledon leaves have opened and the crop has developed strong green foliage.
Under suitable growing conditions, sunflower microgreens are generally ready in approximately 8–12 days. The roots, seed remnants and growing medium are left behind, with the crisp stems and young leaves forming the finished product.
Storage & Preparation
Fresh sunflower microgreens are highly perishable and should remain refrigerated at 0–5°C. Keep them protected from contamination and excess moisture.
Wash thoroughly under cool running water immediately before use, drain well and serve promptly. For the best flavour, texture and appearance, use while the stems remain crisp and the leaves are fresh and vibrant green.
Prefer to Grow Your Own Sunflower Microgreens?
If you would rather grow sunflower microgreens yourself, OzSprout stocks the seed and growing supplies needed to produce fresh trays at home.
Start with our Black Sunflower Microgreen Seeds, grow them in a Microgreen & Wheatgrass Grow Tray and use Coco Fibre Growing Medium or another suitable supportive growing medium.
Sunflower is a larger-seeded microgreen that benefits from an approximately 8-hour pre-soak and light-to-moderate pressure during early germination. This helps the roots establish firmly and produces a dense tray of substantial shoots.
For complete instructions covering soaking, seeding rate, weighted germination, seed-hull management, watering, lighting and harvesting, see our How to Grow Sunflower Microgreens at Home guide.
Growing your own is a practical option for maintaining a regular supply, while our fresh grow-to-order sunflower microgreens are available when you would prefer the crop to be grown and harvested for you.
