Care information

Proper storage and handling can help maintain seed quality and germination performance. Keep seeds sealed, dry and protected from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.

Storage: For best long-term storage, keep seeds refrigerated in a clean, airtight container or securely sealed packaging. A refrigerator at approximately 4°C provides a cool, stable environment that can help maintain seed viability. If refrigeration is not practical, store seeds in the coolest available dry, dark and temperature-stable location.

Moisture: Keep seeds dry at all times during storage. Excess moisture or humidity can reduce seed quality and encourage premature germination, mould or deterioration. Always reseal opened packaging promptly.

Removing Seeds from Refrigeration: Keep refrigerated seeds sealed while they return to room temperature before opening the package or container. This helps prevent condensation from forming on cold seeds and introducing unwanted moisture.

Temperature: Avoid repeated temperature changes and do not store seeds near ovens, heaters, windows, vehicles, sheds or other areas exposed to excessive or fluctuating heat.

Handling: Use clean, dry utensils when removing seed from larger packs and return the remaining seed to refrigerated storage promptly after use.

Before Sowing or Sprouting: Inspect seeds before use and discard any showing signs of moisture damage, mould, unusual odour or deterioration. When growing edible sprouts or microgreens, use clean equipment and drinking-quality water.

Best Quality: Use seed while fresh and follow any product-specific storage, germination and growing information provided in the Specifications, growing instructions or product packaging.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your order size and weight, delivery address and available carrier services. We use Australia Post and other carriers to provide suitable delivery options and rates.

Dispatch

Orders are generally packed and dispatched within 0–2 business days (Monday–Friday), excluding public holidays and unusually busy periods.

Delivery Times

Delivery times begin from the date your order is dispatched. As a general guide, Australia Post Parcel Post usually takes 2–6 business days, while Express Post generally takes 1–3 business days where available.

Regional and remote destinations may take longer. Orders containing seed sent to Western Australia, Tasmania or other biosecurity-controlled destinations may also require additional processing or inspection.

Delivery estimates are provided as a guide only and can be affected by carrier delays, weather, peak periods and biosecurity requirements.

Tracking

All shipped orders include tracking. Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive an email with your tracking information so you can follow its progress.

Authority to Leave

Depending on the carrier and delivery service, your parcel may be left in a safe location if no one is available to receive it. You can provide delivery instructions during checkout where supported by the carrier; however, specific delivery requests cannot always be guaranteed.

Local Pickup – Riverstone, NSW

Local pickup can be selected at checkout when available. Please allow approximately 2–3 business days for your order to be prepared.

Please do not attend the warehouse without an appointment. All pickups are strictly by prior arrangement.

Seed Biosecurity – WA & Tasmania

Seeds and other plant material may be subject to state biosecurity restrictions.

Western Australia has specific entry requirements for seed, and seed consignments may be inspected by Quarantine WA. Tasmania also regulates the importation of viable seed, with additional requirements applying to certain species and consignments.

Requirements vary by seed species, quantity and destination and may change over time. Customers in Western Australia, Tasmania and other biosecurity-controlled areas should check current state requirements before ordering.

Where an order contains seed that cannot meet applicable biosecurity requirements, we may need to contact you before dispatch or remove affected products from the order.

Large Green Lentil Sprouting Seeds

Grow crisp, substantial green lentil sprouts at home with Australian-grown seed. Also ideal for cooking, microgreens and other culinary uses, with bulk sizes available Australia-wide.

Description

Large Green Lentil Sprouting Seeds for Crisp, Easy Sprouts

Grow substantial, crunchy sprouts at home with our large green lentil sprouting seeds. Whole green lentils germinate readily and produce crisp young sprouts with a mild, earthy and slightly nutty flavour.

They are straightforward to grow indoors using a Glass Sprouting Jar or another suitable sprouter and are generally ready to harvest in approximately 3–6 days.

Crunchy Large Green Lentil Sprouts

Large green lentil sprouts have more body and crunch than delicate leafy sprouts such as alfalfa or clover. Their mild savoury flavour works well in salads, wraps, grain bowls, stir-fries, soups and other cooked meals.

For a varied legume sprout selection, grow them alongside Chickpea Sprouting Seeds or Adzuki Bean Sprouting Seeds. Different legumes are generally best sprouted separately so their individual soaking times and harvest stages can be managed before combining them after harvest.

Designed for Jar-Grown Green Lentil Sprouts

This listing is specifically focused on growing short green lentil sprouts in a jar or sprouter. The lentils are soaked first, then rinsed and thoroughly drained several times each day while the roots develop.

Shorter sprouts generally provide the firmest, crunchiest texture. Harvest according to your preferred root length while the sprouts remain fresh, crisp and pleasant in flavour.

Cook Whole Green Lentils

These lentils do not need to be sprouted before use. Whole green lentils are also a versatile pantry pulse for everyday cooking and generally retain their shape well when simmered, producing a firm yet tender texture.

Use cooked green lentils in curries, soups, stews, casseroles, salads, lentil patties, grain bowls, pasta sauces and savoury fillings. Unlike many larger dried beans, green lentils generally do not require overnight soaking before conventional cooking and can usually be simmered until completely tender in approximately 25–40 minutes.

Dry whole lentils can also be milled using suitable equipment to produce lentil flour for savoury baking, batters and other recipes.

Explore More Lentils & Pulses

If you regularly sprout or cook with lentils and pulses, you may also like Large Red Lentils, Chickpeas or Adzuki Beans. Each offers a different flavour and texture for sprouting, cooking or both.

How to Grow Large Green Lentil Sprouts

Large green lentils are straightforward to sprout indoors and produce substantial, crunchy shoots. Regular rinsing, thorough drainage and adequate airflow are the main requirements for reliable results.

A Glass Sprouting Jar works well for lentils. If you are new to jar sprouting, see How to Grow Sprouts in a Jar for the general method.

What You Need

  • Approximately 3 tablespoons / around 35g of large green lentil seed
  • A clean 500ml wide-mouth glass jar or suitable sprouter
  • A fine-mesh sprouting lid or draining screen
  • A draining stand, rack or bowl
  • Clean, drinking-quality water

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Clean your equipment: Wash your hands and thoroughly clean the jar, lid and utensils before starting.
  2. Measure the seed: Add approximately 3 tablespoons of dry green lentils to a 500ml sprouting jar. Remove any visibly damaged or deteriorated seeds.
  3. Rinse and soak: Rinse thoroughly, then cover generously with clean drinking-quality water. Soak for approximately 10–12 hours.
  4. Drain thoroughly: Discard the soaking water, rinse the lentils again and drain completely.
  5. Position for drainage: Keep the jar tilted with the opening facing downward so excess water can escape and air can circulate.
  6. Rinse regularly: Rinse and thoroughly drain the developing sprouts approximately 2–3 times each day.
  7. Maintain suitable conditions: Keep the jar in a well-ventilated position away from hot direct sunlight. A growing temperature of approximately 18–23°C is suitable.
  8. Watch the roots develop: Small white roots will emerge first and lengthen over the following days.
  9. Harvest: Large green lentil sprouts are generally ready in approximately 3–6 days, depending on temperature and your preferred sprout length.

Tips for Best Results

  • Do not overcrowd the jar.
  • Keep the lentils well drained between rinses.
  • Do not leave standing water around the seeds.
  • Maintain good airflow throughout the growing period.
  • Shorter sprouts generally have a firmer, crunchier texture.
  • Grow legumes with different soaking or harvest requirements separately and combine them after harvest.
  • Discard sprouts that become slimy, show obvious mould or decay, or develop a sour, rotten or unusually musty smell.

Mixing Green Lentil Sprouts

Large green lentils can be combined after harvest with other substantial legume sprouts such as Chickpea Sprouts and Adzuki Bean Sprouts.

Growing each variety separately gives you better control over soaking time, drainage and harvest stage.

Cooking Green Lentils

Whole green lentils can also be cooked without sprouting.

Rinse the dry lentils thoroughly, cover with fresh water and simmer until completely tender. Overnight soaking is generally unnecessary for conventional lentil cooking.

For another lentil suited to both sprouting and cooking, see Large Red Lentils.

Harvest & Storage

Give the finished sprouts a final thorough rinse and drain them as completely as practical.

Transfer the well-drained sprouts to a clean covered container and refrigerate promptly.

Use while fresh and discard them if their appearance, smell or texture deteriorates.

Food Safety

Raw sprouts can carry harmful bacteria even when carefully grown at home.

Always use clean equipment and drinking-quality water, maintain thorough drainage and refrigerate harvested sprouts promptly.

People at increased risk from foodborne illness, including pregnant women, young children, some older people and people with compromised immunity, should avoid raw or lightly cooked sprouts.

Thorough cooking reduces the food-safety risk associated with raw sprouts.
