Care information

Proper storage and handling can help maintain seed quality and germination performance. Keep seeds sealed, dry and protected from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.

Storage: For best long-term storage, keep seeds refrigerated in a clean, airtight container or securely sealed packaging. A refrigerator at approximately 4°C provides a cool, stable environment that can help maintain seed viability. If refrigeration is not practical, store seeds in the coolest available dry, dark and temperature-stable location.

Moisture: Keep seeds dry at all times during storage. Excess moisture or humidity can reduce seed quality and encourage premature germination, mould or deterioration. Always reseal opened packaging promptly.

Removing Seeds from Refrigeration: Keep refrigerated seeds sealed while they return to room temperature before opening the package or container. This helps prevent condensation from forming on cold seeds and introducing unwanted moisture.

Temperature: Avoid repeated temperature changes and do not store seeds near ovens, heaters, windows, vehicles, sheds or other areas exposed to excessive or fluctuating heat.

Handling: Use clean, dry utensils when removing seed from larger packs and return the remaining seed to refrigerated storage promptly after use.

Before Sowing or Sprouting: Inspect seeds before use and discard any showing signs of moisture damage, mould, unusual odour or deterioration. When growing edible sprouts or microgreens, use clean equipment and drinking-quality water.

Best Quality: Use seed while fresh and follow any product-specific storage, germination and growing information provided in the Specifications, growing instructions or product packaging.

Seed Biosecurity – WA & Tasmania

Seeds and other plant material may be subject to state biosecurity restrictions.

Western Australia has specific entry requirements for seed, and seed consignments may be inspected by Quarantine WA. Tasmania also regulates the importation of viable seed, with additional requirements applying to certain species and consignments.

Requirements vary by seed species, quantity and destination and may change over time. Customers in Western Australia, Tasmania and other biosecurity-controlled areas should check current state requirements before ordering.

Where an order contains seed that cannot meet applicable biosecurity requirements, we may need to contact you before dispatch or remove affected products from the order.

Flat Leaf Parsley Microgreen Seeds

Grow aromatic Flat Leaf Parsley microgreens with fresh green foliage, tender serrated leaves and a clean parsley flavour. A specialty micro herb for salads, seafood, pasta, potatoes, sauces, soups and fresh garnishes.

Description

Flat Leaf Parsley Microgreen Seeds for Fresh Culinary Micro Herbs

Flat Leaf Parsley Microgreen Seeds produce tender green shoots with the fresh aroma and recognisable herbal flavour of parsley. Grown to the first true-leaf stage, the crop develops attractive flat, serrated foliage that gives it a distinctly parsley-like appearance and makes it particularly useful as a fresh culinary micro herb.

Flat Leaf Parsley grows considerably more slowly than common microgreens such as broccoli, radish and mustard. Germination is gradual, followed by a longer growing period while the characteristic true leaves develop. Under suitable conditions, allow approximately 21–30 days from sowing to harvest.

Fresh Parsley Flavour & Flat Serrated Leaves

Flat Leaf Parsley microgreens have a clean, aromatic parsley flavour with fresh herbal, grassy and lightly savoury notes. Their tender foliage provides familiar parsley character in a compact form that works particularly well as a finishing ingredient.

Add freshly harvested micro parsley to salads, sandwiches, eggs, potatoes, pasta and grain dishes, or use it to finish soups, sauces, seafood and vegetables. The distinctive flat, serrated leaves also make an attractive garnish for plated savoury dishes.

Best Grown to the True-Leaf Stage

Flat Leaf Parsley is particularly valuable as a micro herb once its first recognisable parsley leaves develop. The young cotyledons are relatively simple, but the later true leaves become divided and serrated, giving the crop its characteristic appearance and stronger culinary identity.

Sow approximately 15–20g per 25 × 50cm tray onto a fine, consistently moist growing medium such as Coco Fibre Growing Medium. Keep the seed shallow and allow extra time for its naturally slow germination.

A Specialty Micro Herb Worth the Extra Growing Time

Parsley requires more patience than most tray-grown microgreens, but the longer crop cycle produces distinctive true foliage and fresh aromatic flavour. Once seedlings establish, bright light, good airflow and bottom watering help produce a healthy, well-coloured crop.

Grow Parsley Beyond the Microgreen Stage

The same type of parsley can also be grown as a full-sized culinary herb. If your main goal is mature plants for repeated leaf harvesting in pots or garden beds, see our Italian Flat Leaf Parsley Herb Seeds.

If you prefer a more compact parsley with tightly curled foliage, you may also like our Curled Parsley Herb Seeds.

How to Grow Flat Leaf Parsley Microgreens

Flat Leaf Parsley is a slow-growing specialty micro herb with tender green shoots, characteristic serrated true leaves and fresh parsley flavour. It requires more time than most common microgreens and is best allowed to develop recognisable true foliage before harvest.

What You Need

  • Flat Leaf Parsley Microgreen Seeds
  • A shallow tray with drainage holes
  • A solid lower tray for bottom watering
  • Fine seed-raising mix, coco coir or another suitable fine growing medium
  • Clean drinking-quality water
  • Fine mist sprayer
  • A second tray or suitable germination cover
  • Bright natural light or suitable grow lights
  • Clean scissors or a sharp harvesting knife

Seed Rate

For a standard 25 × 50cm microgreen tray, use approximately:

15–20g dry seed per tray

Spread the seed evenly across the growing surface.

Flat Leaf Parsley remains in the tray for several weeks, so avoid excessive density. Moderate spacing improves airflow as the true leaves develop.

Pre-Soak

No pre-soaking required.

Sow Flat Leaf Parsley seed dry.

Although soaking is sometimes used when growing mature parsley, it is not necessary for this microgreen method.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Clean your equipment. Wash and thoroughly rinse trays, covers and growing tools.
  2. Prepare the growing medium. Add approximately 2–3cm of fine seed-raising mix, coco coir or another suitable fine-textured medium.
  3. Moisten before sowing. Water evenly and allow excess water to drain. The medium should be consistently damp without being saturated.
  4. Measure the seed. Use approximately 15–20g for a standard 25 × 50cm tray.
  5. Sow evenly. Distribute the seed across the prepared surface.
  6. Press gently. Ensure good contact between the seed and growing medium.
  7. Cover lightly. Apply only a thin layer of fine growing medium or vermiculite. Do not bury deeply.
  8. Mist gently. Moisten using clean drinking-quality water.
  9. Cover during early germination. Place another tray or suitable germination cover over the crop.
  10. Check regularly. Maintain consistent moisture without saturating the medium.
  11. Uncover once germination is clearly underway. Do not wait for every individual seed to emerge.
  12. Provide bright light. Move the tray into bright indirect natural light or beneath suitable grow lights.
  13. Maintain good airflow. This is particularly important during the longer crop cycle.
  14. Bottom water once rooted. Switch primarily to watering from below once the root system establishes.

Covered Germination

Keep the tray covered for approximately:

4–5 days

Heavy weighting is unnecessary.

Parsley germinates slowly, so the covered period may finish before all seedlings have emerged.

Check the tray regularly and uncover once germination is underway and seedlings are beginning to establish.

For more information, see Microgreen Blackout Explained.

Germination

Initial germination can begin in approximately:

6–10 days

Allow up to approximately 14 days or longer for slower seedlings.

Flat Leaf Parsley is naturally slower and less uniform than fast brassica microgreens.

Do not compensate for slow emergence by continually increasing watering.

Temperature

Aim for approximately:

18–24°C

Moderate temperatures support steady germination and healthy growth.

Avoid excessive heat combined with stagnant humidity.

Light

Once uncovered:

  • provide bright indirect natural light or suitable grow lights;
  • maintain consistent daily light;
  • rotate the tray if necessary;
  • maintain good airflow; and
  • avoid excessive heat.

Good light helps produce compact growth and healthy deep-green true leaves.

Watering

During germination:

  • maintain consistent surface moisture;
  • mist gently when required;
  • avoid flooding the shallow seed;
  • do not allow repeated drying; and
  • avoid permanently saturated growing media.

Once roots establish, bottom watering is preferable.

For detailed guidance, see How to Water Microgreens: Misting vs Bottom Watering.

When bottom watering:

  • add a shallow amount of water to the lower tray;
  • allow the growing medium to absorb moisture;
  • check moisture before watering again;
  • avoid permanent standing water;
  • minimise wetting established foliage; and
  • maintain good airflow.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use approximately 15–20g per 25 × 50cm tray.
  • Do not pre-soak.
  • Sow shallowly.
  • Cover only lightly with fine medium or vermiculite.
  • Keep covered for approximately 4–5 days.
  • Expect initial germination in approximately 6–10 days.
  • Allow extra time for slower emergence.
  • Maintain approximately 18–24°C.
  • Provide bright light once seedlings establish.
  • Maintain good airflow.
  • Bottom water once roots establish.
  • Allow the flat serrated true leaves to develop.
  • Harvest at approximately 21–30 days.

Allow the True Leaves to Develop

Flat Leaf Parsley is best grown beyond the earliest cotyledon stage.

As the crop develops:

  • the first true leaves become divided and serrated;
  • the foliage becomes recognisably parsley-like;
  • the fresh parsley aroma becomes more pronounced; and
  • the crop becomes more useful as a culinary garnish.

This true-leaf stage is one of the main features that distinguishes Flat Leaf Parsley from faster conventional microgreens.

Avoid Over-Seeding

Do not add extra seed simply because initial germination looks sparse.

Because Flat Leaf Parsley continues developing for several weeks, excessive density can eventually lead to:

  • restricted airflow;
  • persistent humidity;
  • weaker foliage; and
  • more difficult moisture management.

Use approximately 15–20g per tray as the starting rate.

Root Hairs vs Mould

Fine white root hairs can sometimes be mistaken for mould.

Healthy root hairs generally:

  • grow directly from individual roots;
  • appear relatively evenly;
  • become more noticeable as roots dry slightly; and
  • become less visible immediately after watering.

Mould is more likely to:

  • spread irregularly between seedlings;
  • form web-like patches;
  • persist after watering; or
  • occur with slime, decay or unpleasant smells.

If you are uncertain, see Mould vs Root Hairs on Sprouts & Microgreens.

Discard crops showing obvious spoilage.

Harvest & Storage

Harvest approximately:

21–30 days from sowing

Flat Leaf Parsley microgreens are generally ready when:

  • the crop is fresh green and well established;
  • recognisable flat, serrated true leaves have developed;
  • shoots are approximately 5–8cm tall;
  • the foliage remains tender; and
  • a clear fresh parsley aroma and flavour has developed.

Cut cleanly just above the growing medium using clean scissors or a sharp harvesting knife.

Where practical, harvest when the foliage is relatively dry.

For additional guidance, see How to Harvest & Store Microgreens.

Refrigerate promptly in a clean container. If washed before refrigeration, drain and dry thoroughly first.

Culinary Use

Flat Leaf Parsley microgreens work particularly well with:

  • eggs;
  • potatoes;
  • pasta;
  • salads;
  • soups;
  • seafood;
  • vegetables;
  • grain dishes;
  • sauces; and
  • savoury garnishes.

Add near the end of preparation or immediately before serving to preserve their fresh aroma and delicate appearance.

Growing Flat Leaf Parsley to Maturity

For dedicated full-sized herb growing:

  1. Sow shallowly into moist seed-raising mix or prepared garden soil.
  2. Maintain consistent moisture during germination.
  3. Thin or transplant established plants to approximately 20–30cm apart.
  4. Grow in fertile, well-drained soil.
  5. Provide full sun to partial shade.
  6. Harvest mature outside stems progressively.

For the dedicated mature-herb product, see Italian Flat Leaf Parsley Herb Seeds.

Clean Growing / Food Safety

Use clean trays, fresh growing medium, drinking-quality water and clean harvesting equipment.

Maintain:

  • appropriate moisture;
  • good drainage;
  • adequate airflow;
  • clean harvesting tools; and
  • prompt refrigeration after harvest.

Discard microgreens showing visible mould, slime, decay, abnormal discolouration or unpleasant smells.

Seed Storage

Store unused Flat Leaf Parsley seed sealed in a cool, dry and dark place away from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.

For longer-term storage, refrigeration can help maintain seed viability. Keep refrigerated seed sealed while it returns to room temperature before opening to reduce condensation.
