Black Lentil Sprouting Seeds for Quick, Crunchy Sprouts
Grow crisp, substantial sprouts at home with our black lentil sprouting seeds. Beluga black lentils are small, dark seeds that germinate quickly and develop firm young sprouts with a mild, earthy and slightly nutty flavour.
They are easy to grow indoors using a Glass Sprouting Jar or another suitable sprouter and are generally ready to harvest in approximately 2–4 days.
Crunchy Beluga Black Lentil Sprouts
Black lentil sprouts are firmer and more substantial than delicate leafy sprouts such as alfalfa or clover. Their compact size and mild savoury flavour work well in salads, wraps, grain bowls, stir-fries, soups and other savoury meals.
For a varied legume sprout selection, try them alongside Chickpea Sprouting Seeds or Adzuki Bean Sprouting Seeds. Larger legumes are generally best grown separately so their individual soaking and harvest requirements can be managed correctly before combining them after harvest.
Designed for Short Jar-Grown Lentil Sprouts
This listing is specifically focused on growing short black lentil sprouts in a jar or sprouter. The lentils are soaked first, then rinsed and thoroughly drained several times each day until short, crisp roots have developed.
Harvesting at the young sprout stage provides a firmer texture. Allowing the sprouts to develop for longer produces softer shoots, but they should be harvested before they become excessively long or lose their crisp texture.
Cook Black Beluga Lentils as a Pantry Pulse
Black lentils do not need to be sprouted before use. Whole Beluga lentils are also a versatile dried pulse for cooking and are particularly valued for retaining their shape and firm texture better than many softer lentil varieties.
Use cooked black lentils in salads, soups, stews, curries, grain bowls, pilafs and side dishes, or blend cooked lentils into savoury dips and spreads. They generally do not require overnight soaking for conventional cooking and can usually be simmered in fresh water until tender in approximately 20–30 minutes.
Explore More Lentils & Pulses for Cooking
If you regularly cook with dried pulses, you may also like Large Red Lentils, Adzuki Beans or Chickpeas. Each can be cooked whole for a range of soups, curries, stews, salads and other savoury dishes.
