BioSnacky Dome Seed Sprouter – 3 Tier

The BioSnacky 3-Tier Dome Seed Sprouter allows up to three crops to be grown simultaneously using stacked growing trays and a lower water-collection tray.

Before You Start

You will need:

• BioSnacky dome sprouter
• Seeds intended for edible sprouting
• Clean drinking-quality water
• Suitable fleece or filter paper for very fine seeds where required

Wash your hands and thoroughly clean the dome, growing trays and lower collection tray before beginning.

Step 1 – Prepare the Seeds

Follow the preparation instructions for the particular seed variety you are growing.

Some seeds can be placed directly into the sprouter, while others may benefit from pre-soaking before being spread across the growing tray.

Do not assume every variety requires the same soaking period.

Step 2 – Prepare the Growing Trays

Spread the appropriate quantity of seed evenly across a clean tray.

Avoid overcrowding. Seeds expand considerably as they absorb water and germinate, so leave enough room for drainage and airflow.

For very small seeds, a damp suitable fleece or filter paper can be placed over the growing surface before the seed is added.

Larger seeds such as:

• Mung beans
• Lentils
• Peas
• Wheat

can generally be distributed directly across the growing tray where appropriate.

Step 3 – Use One, Two or Three Trays

You can:

• use one tray for a single crop;
• grow different varieties on separate levels; or
• stagger sowings so crops reach harvest at different times.

When first using the sprouter, growing one variety per tray makes it easier to manage differences in germination and harvest time.

Step 4 – Assemble the Sprouter

1. Place the lower water-collection tray on a stable surface.
2. Stack the growing trays securely above it.
3. Fit the transparent dome.
4. Check that the drainage points are correctly positioned and unobstructed.

Place the assembled sprouter in a bright indoor location away from hot direct sunlight.

A moderate room temperature of approximately 18–22°C is suitable for many common sprouting varieties, although crop-specific requirements should take priority.

Step 5 – Water from Above

1. Add clean drinking-quality water through the top of the sprouter.
2. Allow sufficient water to enter the upper growing tray.
3. Let the water move progressively through the stacked levels.
4. Allow excess water to collect in the lower tray.
5. Check that each level has drained correctly.
6. Empty excessive standing water from the collection tray.

The seeds should remain moist without remaining submerged.

Step 6 – Continue Watering

Watering frequency will vary according to:

• seed variety;
• room temperature;
• stage of germination; and
• moisture remaining in the trays.

During early germination, check the seeds regularly and maintain consistent moisture.

Avoid allowing ungerminated seeds to dry completely, but also avoid leaving them sitting continuously in standing water.

Check Drainage

If a tray does not drain correctly:

• check for seeds or hulls blocking the drainage point;
• make sure the trays are assembled correctly;
• check that drainage components are seated properly; and
• remove any excessive standing water manually if required.

Good drainage is important throughout the growing cycle.

Taller Shoots

The upper level provides additional vertical clearance beneath the dome and can accommodate taller young shoots.

If growing wheat or another taller crop, monitor the available headroom and do not allow the crop to become excessively crowded.

For full-sized wheatgrass or substantial microgreens, a dedicated grow tray is generally more appropriate.

Harvesting

Harvest time varies considerably between seed varieties.

Use the crop-specific harvest guidance supplied with your sprouting seed.

When ready:

1. Remove the sprouts from the tray.
2. Rinse thoroughly under clean drinking-quality water.
3. Drain well.
4. Refrigerate promptly if they will not be eaten immediately.
5. Clean the growing tray before beginning another crop.

Food Safety

Raw sprouts can carry harmful bacteria even when grown carefully.

• Wash hands before handling seeds or sprouts.
• Use clean equipment.
• Use seeds intended for edible sprouting.
• Use drinking-quality water.
• Maintain good drainage.
• Avoid leaving sprouts in stagnant water.
• Keep preparation and growing surfaces clean.
• Refrigerate harvested sprouts promptly at 5°C or below.
• Discard crops that develop slime, mould, unusual discolouration or an unpleasant odour.
• People at increased risk of foodborne illness should avoid raw or lightly cooked sprouts. Thorough cooking provides the lowest food-safety risk.

Cleaning Between Crops

After each harvest:

1. Remove all remaining roots, seeds, hulls and plant material.
2. Separate the dome, growing trays and collection tray.
3. Wash all components thoroughly.
4. Rinse well with clean water.
5. Allow every component to dry completely before storage or reuse.

Start each new growing cycle with clean, dry equipment.
