Care information

Proper storage and handling can help maintain seed quality and germination performance. Keep seeds sealed, dry and protected from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.

Storage: For best long-term storage, keep seeds refrigerated in a clean, airtight container or securely sealed packaging. A refrigerator at approximately 4°C provides a cool, stable environment that can help maintain seed viability. If refrigeration is not practical, store seeds in the coolest available dry, dark and temperature-stable location.

Moisture: Keep seeds dry at all times during storage. Excess moisture or humidity can reduce seed quality and encourage premature germination, mould or deterioration. Always reseal opened packaging promptly.

Removing Seeds from Refrigeration: Keep refrigerated seeds sealed while they return to room temperature before opening the package or container. This helps prevent condensation from forming on cold seeds and introducing unwanted moisture.

Temperature: Avoid repeated temperature changes and do not store seeds near ovens, heaters, windows, vehicles, sheds or other areas exposed to excessive or fluctuating heat.

Handling: Use clean, dry utensils when removing seed from larger packs and return the remaining seed to refrigerated storage promptly after use.

Before Sowing or Sprouting: Inspect seeds before use and discard any showing signs of moisture damage, mould, unusual odour or deterioration. When growing edible sprouts or microgreens, use clean equipment and drinking-quality water.

Best Quality: Use seed while fresh and follow any product-specific storage, germination and growing information provided in the Specifications, growing instructions or product packaging.

Delivery times begin from the date your order is dispatched. As a general guide, Australia Post Parcel Post usually takes 2–6 business days, while Express Post generally takes 1–3 business days where available.

Regional and remote destinations may take longer. Orders containing seed sent to Western Australia, Tasmania or other biosecurity-controlled destinations may also require additional processing or inspection.

Delivery estimates are provided as a guide only and can be affected by carrier delays, weather, peak periods and biosecurity requirements.

Tracking

All shipped orders include tracking. Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive an email with your tracking information so you can follow its progress.

Authority to Leave

Depending on the carrier and delivery service, your parcel may be left in a safe location if no one is available to receive it. You can provide delivery instructions during checkout where supported by the carrier; however, specific delivery requests cannot always be guaranteed.

Seed Biosecurity – WA & Tasmania

Seeds and other plant material may be subject to state biosecurity restrictions.

Western Australia has specific entry requirements for seed, and seed consignments may be inspected by Quarantine WA. Tasmania also regulates the importation of viable seed, with additional requirements applying to certain species and consignments.

Requirements vary by seed species, quantity and destination and may change over time. Customers in Western Australia, Tasmania and other biosecurity-controlled areas should check current state requirements before ordering.

Where an order contains seed that cannot meet applicable biosecurity requirements, we may need to contact you before dispatch or remove affected products from the order.

Organic White Quinoa Seeds – Sprouting & Cooking

Organic white quinoa seeds for cooking, quick home sprouting, microgreens and milling into flour. Mild, nutty South American quinoa available in bulk sizes across Australia.

Description

Organic White Quinoa Seeds for Sprouting, Cooking & Everyday Use

Organic white quinoa seeds are a versatile pantry staple suitable for cooking, sprouting, growing as microgreens and home milling. White quinoa has a mild, slightly nutty flavour and cooks into light, tender grains that work across both savoury meals and breakfast dishes.

Quinoa is a pseudocereal rather than a true cereal grain. The whole seeds can be cooked much like rice, germinated into short quinoa sprouts, grown for longer as delicate microgreens, milled into quinoa flour, or lightly toasted or popped for toppings and snack mixes.

Cook White Quinoa for Salads, Bowls & Breakfasts

Cooked white quinoa works well in salads, grain bowls, curries, soups, stuffed vegetables and savoury side dishes. It can also be cooked with additional liquid for a warm breakfast porridge and served with fruit, yoghurt, nuts or seeds.

For another versatile breakfast seed, Organic Black Chia Seeds can be added to smoothies, porridge, yoghurt and breakfast bowls or soaked to make chia pudding.

Rinse quinoa thoroughly before cooking to remove residual naturally occurring saponins, which can contribute a bitter or soapy flavour. A practical starting method is approximately one part quinoa to two parts water or stock, simmered until the grains are tender and the liquid has been absorbed.

Grow Quick Quinoa Sprouts

White quinoa germinates very quickly and is best grown as a short sprout. Rinse the seed thoroughly, give it only a brief soak, then rinse and drain regularly until tiny white roots emerge.

Because quinoa seed is very small, use a fine-mesh draining screen and avoid overcrowding the sprouter. Harvest while the roots remain short and the seed retains a pleasant texture.

Grow Quinoa Microgreens

Quinoa can also be sown onto a moist growing medium and allowed to develop beyond the short sprout stage into quinoa microgreens. This tray-growing method differs from jar sprouting and allows the young seedlings to develop green cotyledons before harvest.

Mill, Toast or Pop Quinoa

Dry quinoa can be ground using suitable milling equipment to produce quinoa flour for pancakes, flatbreads and other suitable baking recipes.

The seeds can also be lightly toasted or popped for use in cereals, snack mixes and toppings, giving the same whole seed a range of practical culinary uses.

How to Sprout & Use White Quinoa

White quinoa is a fast-germinating seed that can be cooked whole, grown as short sprouts, used for microgreens or milled into quinoa flour.

How to Grow Quinoa Sprouts

Quinoa absorbs water very quickly and does not require the long soaking time used for larger beans, peas or lentils.

What You Need

  • Approximately 1 tablespoon of white quinoa seed
  • A clean 500ml wide-mouth glass jar or suitable sprouter
  • A very fine-mesh sprouting lid or draining screen
  • Clean drinking-quality water
  • A draining stand or bowl

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Clean your equipment: Wash your hands and thoroughly clean the jar, lid and utensils before starting.
  2. Measure the seed: Add approximately 1 tablespoon of quinoa seed to a 500ml sprouting jar.
  3. Rinse thoroughly: Rinse the quinoa several times with cool drinking-quality water. Quinoa naturally contains saponins, so thorough rinsing is particularly important.
  4. Soak briefly: Cover generously with cool water and soak for approximately 30–60 minutes.
  5. Drain completely: Discard the soaking water, rinse thoroughly again and drain as completely as practical.
  6. Position for airflow: Keep the jar tilted so excess water can escape and air can circulate.
  7. Rinse regularly: Rinse and thoroughly drain approximately every 8–12 hours.
  8. Maintain suitable conditions: Keep the sprouter at normal room temperature away from hot direct sunlight.
  9. Watch for germination: Tiny white roots can appear quickly.
  10. Harvest: Harvest once most seeds have developed short roots, generally within approximately 1–3 days, depending on temperature and your preferred sprout length.

Tips for Best Results

  • Quinoa does not need a long soak.
  • Use a very fine draining screen because the seeds are small.
  • Rinse thoroughly before sprouting.
  • Drain completely after every rinse.
  • Do not leave germinating quinoa sitting in standing water.
  • Short quinoa sprouts generally provide the best texture.
  • Avoid unnecessarily extending the growing period once the tiny roots have developed.
  • Discard any batch showing obvious mould, slime, decay or an abnormal smell.

Growing Quinoa Microgreens

Quinoa can also be grown beyond the short sprout stage in a shallow tray.

  1. Fill a shallow tray with moist seed-raising mix, coco fibre or another suitable microgreen medium.
  2. Scatter the quinoa seed evenly across the surface.
  3. Press gently to establish good contact with the growing medium.
  4. Mist gently without saturating the tray.
  5. Keep the surface consistently moist during germination.
  6. Once seedlings emerge, provide bright indirect light or a suitable grow light.
  7. Maintain good airflow.
  8. Harvest once the green cotyledons are well developed, generally within approximately 7–14 days.

How to Cook White Quinoa

  1. Place the dry quinoa in a fine sieve.
  2. Rinse thoroughly under cool running water.
  3. Add approximately 1 cup quinoa to 2 cups water or stock.
  4. Bring to the boil.
  5. Reduce the heat, cover and simmer gently for approximately 10–15 minutes, or until tender and the liquid has been absorbed.
  6. Remove from the heat and leave covered for approximately 5 minutes.
  7. Fluff gently with a fork before serving.

Ways to Use Cooked Quinoa

  • Salads and grain bowls
  • Curries and savoury sides
  • Soups and stews
  • Stuffed vegetables
  • Breakfast porridge
  • Meal-prep bowls

Other Ways to Use White Quinoa

  • Grind into quinoa flour
  • Lightly toast the dry seed
  • Pop small quantities for toppings
  • Add cooked quinoa to breakfast bowls
  • Grow as quinoa microgreens
  • Plant viable seed through to maturity

Food Safety

Raw sprouts can carry harmful bacteria even when carefully grown at home.

Always use clean equipment and drinking-quality water, maintain thorough drainage and refrigerate harvested sprouts promptly.

People at increased risk from foodborne illness, including pregnant women, young children, some older people and people with compromised immunity, should avoid raw or lightly cooked sprouts.

Thorough cooking reduces the food-safety risk associated with raw sprouts.

Storage

Store dry quinoa tightly sealed in a cool, dry and dark location away from heat and moisture.

For longer-term storage, refrigeration or freezing in an airtight container can help maintain quality.
