Care information

Proper storage and handling can help maintain seed quality and germination performance. Keep seeds sealed, dry and protected from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.

Storage: For best long-term storage, keep seeds refrigerated in a clean, airtight container or securely sealed packaging. A refrigerator at approximately 4°C provides a cool, stable environment that can help maintain seed viability. If refrigeration is not practical, store seeds in the coolest available dry, dark and temperature-stable location.

Moisture: Keep seeds dry at all times during storage. Excess moisture or humidity can reduce seed quality and encourage premature germination, mould or deterioration. Always reseal opened packaging promptly.

Removing Seeds from Refrigeration: Keep refrigerated seeds sealed while they return to room temperature before opening the package or container. This helps prevent condensation from forming on cold seeds and introducing unwanted moisture.

Temperature: Avoid repeated temperature changes and do not store seeds near ovens, heaters, windows, vehicles, sheds or other areas exposed to excessive or fluctuating heat.

Handling: Use clean, dry utensils when removing seed from larger packs and return the remaining seed to refrigerated storage promptly after use.

Before Sowing or Sprouting: Inspect seeds before use and discard any showing signs of moisture damage, mould, unusual odour or deterioration. When growing edible sprouts or microgreens, use clean equipment and drinking-quality water.

Best Quality: Use seed while fresh and follow any product-specific storage, germination and growing information provided in the Specifications, growing instructions or product packaging.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your order size and weight, delivery address and available carrier services. We use Australia Post and other carriers to provide suitable delivery options and rates.

Dispatch

Orders are generally packed and dispatched within 0–2 business days (Monday–Friday), excluding public holidays and unusually busy periods.

Delivery Times

Delivery times begin from the date your order is dispatched. As a general guide, Australia Post Parcel Post usually takes 2–6 business days, while Express Post generally takes 1–3 business days where available.

Delivery estimates are provided as a guide only and can be affected by carrier delays, weather, peak periods and biosecurity requirements.

Tracking

All shipped orders include tracking. Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive an email with your tracking information so you can follow its progress.

Authority to Leave

Depending on the carrier and delivery service, your parcel may be left in a safe location if no one is available to receive it. You can provide delivery instructions during checkout where supported by the carrier; however, specific delivery requests cannot always be guaranteed.

Seed Biosecurity – WA & Tasmania

Seeds and other plant material may be subject to state biosecurity restrictions.

Western Australia has specific entry requirements for seed, and seed consignments may be inspected by Quarantine WA. Tasmania also regulates the importation of viable seed, with additional requirements applying to certain species and consignments.

Requirements vary by seed species, quantity and destination and may change over time. Customers in Western Australia, Tasmania and other biosecurity-controlled areas should check current state requirements before ordering.

Where an order contains seed that cannot meet applicable biosecurity requirements, we may need to contact you before dispatch or remove affected products from the order.

Green Mung Bean Sprouting Seeds

Grow crisp, crunchy green mung bean sprouts in 3–5 days with Australian-grown sprouting seeds. Easy to grow at home, with bulk sizes available across Australia.

Description

Australian Green Mung Bean Sprouting Seeds for Crisp Bean Sprouts

Grow thick, crunchy bean sprouts at home with our green mung bean sprouting seeds. Australian-grown green mung beans are one of the most popular choices for home sprouting, producing crisp, juicy white shoots with a mild, slightly sweet and nutty flavour in approximately 3–5 days.

These versatile green mung beans are suitable for both sprouting and cooking. Use them to grow fresh bean sprouts in a glass jar or purpose-built sprouter, or cook the whole dried beans for soups, curries, stews, dhal-style dishes and other savoury recipes.

Grow Classic Crunchy Green Mung Bean Sprouts

Green mung beans produce the familiar thick bean sprouts commonly used in Asian-style cooking. Growing them away from strong light encourages pale, tender shoots with a fresh crunch, while careful rinsing and thorough drainage help produce clean, even growth.

Freshly grown mung bean sprouts work particularly well in stir-fries, noodle dishes, soups, curries and other cooked meals. For food safety, thorough cooking is the safest way to consume sprouts.

Cook Green Mung Beans as a Pantry Staple

Green mung beans are also a useful dried pulse in their own right. When cooked, they soften while retaining a mild, earthy flavour and can be used in curries, soups, stews, savoury bowls and traditional Asian dishes.

This makes them a practical dual-purpose seed for customers who want one product that can be used for both home sprouting and everyday cooking.

Easy to Grow Indoors All Year

Mung beans need only water, a clean sprouting container and regular rinsing. The beans expand considerably during soaking, then develop thick white roots over the following few days. Good drainage, airflow and avoiding overcrowding are particularly important for producing crisp sprouts without excess moisture.

For the best texture, harvest while the sprouts are plump and crunchy rather than allowing the shoots to become overly long or fibrous.

Bulk Green Mung Bean Seeds Australia

How to Grow Mung Bean Sprouts

Mung beans are one of the easiest larger seeds to sprout indoors. They expand significantly during soaking and produce thick, crunchy shoots, so give them enough room to grow and drain thoroughly after every rinse.

What You Need

  • 5 tablespoons of mung bean sprouting seed for a 500ml jar
  • A clean 500ml wide-mouth glass jar or purpose-built sprouter
  • A sprouting lid or suitable draining screen
  • A draining stand, rack or bowl
  • Clean, drinking-quality water

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Clean your equipment: Wash your hands and thoroughly clean the jar, lid and any utensils before beginning.
  2. Measure the seed: Add approximately 5 tablespoons (around 60g) of dry mung beans to a 500ml sprouting jar. Remove any visibly damaged or discoloured beans.
  3. Rinse and soak: Rinse the beans thoroughly, then cover generously with clean water. Soak for approximately 8–12 hours — around 8 hours during warmer months and up to 12 hours during cooler months.
  4. Drain thoroughly: Empty the soaking water, rinse the beans again and drain completely. Position the jar at an angle so excess water can continue to escape while air circulates.
  5. Rinse regularly: Rinse and drain the beans 2–3 times each day. During hot or humid weather, an additional rinse may be useful. Always drain thoroughly and avoid leaving standing water in the jar.
  6. Grow away from strong light: Keep the jar in a dark or low-light, well-ventilated location. Growing mung sprouts away from bright light generally produces paler, sweeter and more tender shoots.
  7. Maintain a suitable temperature: Mung beans sprout well at approximately 18–29°C. Avoid prolonged temperatures above 30°C, which can increase the risk of poor growth and spoilage.
  8. Harvest: Mung bean sprouts are generally ready after approximately 3–5 days. Harvest when the shoots are thick, crisp and have reached your preferred length.

Tips for Best Results

  • Do not overcrowd the jar — mung beans expand considerably.
  • Keep the jar tilted between rinses so excess water can escape.
  • Thorough drainage is particularly important with larger bean sprouts.
  • Grow away from strong light for pale, tender shoots.
  • Harvest while the sprouts are still crisp rather than allowing them to become long and fibrous.
  • Remove hard, unsprouted beans before use.
  • Discard any batch that becomes slimy, unusually discoloured or develops an unpleasant or musty smell.

Harvest & Storage

Give the finished sprouts a final thorough rinse and drain them as completely as possible.

Store harvested mung bean sprouts in a clean refrigerated container and use them promptly while they remain crisp and fresh. Discard sprouts if their smell, colour or texture deteriorates.

Food Safety

Raw sprouts can carry harmful bacteria, including Salmonella, E. coli and Listeria, and careful home-growing practices cannot guarantee that sprouts will be bacteria-free.

NSW Food Authority specifically identifies mung bean sprouts as a higher-risk sprout and recommends cooking sprouts thoroughly before eating.

People at increased risk from foodborne illness, including pregnant women, young children, older people and people with compromised immunity, should avoid raw or lightly cooked sprouts.
