Care information

Proper storage and handling can help maintain seed quality and germination performance. Keep seeds sealed, dry and protected from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.

Storage: For best long-term storage, keep seeds refrigerated in a clean, airtight container or securely sealed packaging. A refrigerator at approximately 4°C provides a cool, stable environment that can help maintain seed viability. If refrigeration is not practical, store seeds in the coolest available dry, dark and temperature-stable location.

Moisture: Keep seeds dry at all times during storage. Excess moisture or humidity can reduce seed quality and encourage premature germination, mould or deterioration. Always reseal opened packaging promptly.

Removing Seeds from Refrigeration: Keep refrigerated seeds sealed while they return to room temperature before opening the package or container. This helps prevent condensation from forming on cold seeds and introducing unwanted moisture.

Temperature: Avoid repeated temperature changes and do not store seeds near ovens, heaters, windows, vehicles, sheds or other areas exposed to excessive or fluctuating heat.

Handling: Use clean, dry utensils when removing seed from larger packs and return the remaining seed to refrigerated storage promptly after use.

Before Sowing or Sprouting: Inspect seeds before use and discard any showing signs of moisture damage, mould, unusual odour or deterioration. When growing edible sprouts or microgreens, use clean equipment and drinking-quality water.

Best Quality: Use seed while fresh and follow any product-specific storage, germination and growing information provided in the Specifications, growing instructions or product packaging.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your order size and weight, delivery address and available carrier services. We use Australia Post and other carriers to provide suitable delivery options and rates.

Dispatch

Orders are generally packed and dispatched within 0–2 business days (Monday–Friday), excluding public holidays and unusually busy periods.

Delivery Times

Delivery times begin from the date your order is dispatched. As a general guide, Australia Post Parcel Post usually takes 2–6 business days, while Express Post generally takes 1–3 business days where available.

Regional and remote destinations may take longer. Orders containing seed sent to Western Australia, Tasmania or other biosecurity-controlled destinations may also require additional processing or inspection.

Delivery estimates are provided as a guide only and can be affected by carrier delays, weather, peak periods and biosecurity requirements.

Tracking

All shipped orders include tracking. Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive an email with your tracking information so you can follow its progress.

Authority to Leave

Depending on the carrier and delivery service, your parcel may be left in a safe location if no one is available to receive it. You can provide delivery instructions during checkout where supported by the carrier; however, specific delivery requests cannot always be guaranteed.

Local Pickup – Riverstone, NSW

Local pickup can be selected at checkout when available. Please allow approximately 2–3 business days for your order to be prepared.

Seed Biosecurity – WA & Tasmania

Seeds and other plant material may be subject to state biosecurity restrictions.

Western Australia has specific entry requirements for seed, and seed consignments may be inspected by Quarantine WA. Tasmania also regulates the importation of viable seed, with additional requirements applying to certain species and consignments.

Requirements vary by seed species, quantity and destination and may change over time. Customers in Western Australia, Tasmania and other biosecurity-controlled areas should check current state requirements before ordering.

Where an order contains seed that cannot meet applicable biosecurity requirements, we may need to contact you before dispatch or remove affected products from the order.

French Green Lentil Sprouting Seeds

Grow crisp French green lentil sprouts in just a few days with Australian-grown seed. Also excellent for cooking, microgreens and other culinary uses, with bulk sizes available Australia-wide.

Description

French Green Lentil Sprouting Seeds for Crisp, Quick Sprouts

Grow fresh, crunchy sprouts at home with our French green lentil sprouting seeds. These whole lentils produce compact, substantial sprouts with a distinctive earthy, mildly peppery and nutty flavour and are generally ready to harvest in approximately 2–4 days.

French green lentils are straightforward to grow indoors using a Glass Sprouting Jar or another suitable sprouter. Regular rinsing, thorough drainage and good airflow are the main requirements for a crisp, even crop.

Crunchy French Green Lentil Sprouts

French green lentil sprouts have a firm, crisp texture and more bite than delicate leafy sprouts such as alfalfa or clover. Their earthy flavour works well in salads, sandwiches, wraps, grain bowls, stir-fries and other savoury meals.

They can also be combined after harvest with other sprouted lentils, peas or legumes. Growing different varieties separately is generally preferable when their soaking times and harvest periods differ.

Designed for Jar-Grown Lentil Sprouts

This listing is specifically focused on growing short French green lentil sprouts in a jar or sprouter. The lentils are soaked first, then rinsed and thoroughly drained several times each day while the roots develop.

Shorter sprouts generally provide the firmest, crunchiest texture. Harvest according to your preferred root length while the lentils remain fresh and crisp.

Cook French Green Lentils Whole

French green lentils do not need to be sprouted before use. They are also a versatile dried pulse for cooking and are particularly valued for retaining their shape and firm texture better than many softer lentil varieties.

No overnight soaking is normally required for conventional cooking. Rinse the dry lentils, simmer them in water or stock until completely tender, and use them in soups, curries, stews, casseroles, lentil salads, grain bowls, veggie patties, savoury fillings and side dishes.

Dry French green lentils can also be milled using suitable equipment to produce lentil flour for savoury baking, batters and other recipes.

Sprouts vs Lentil Microgreens

This product page is focused on jar-grown French green lentil sprouts harvested after only a few days. Lentils can also be grown for longer in trays to produce leafy microgreens, but that method uses a growing medium, different seeding rates and a later harvest stage.

How to Grow French Green Lentil Sprouts

French green lentils are fast and straightforward to sprout indoors. Regular rinsing, complete drainage and good airflow help produce firm, crunchy sprouts.

If you are new to jar sprouting, see How to Grow Sprouts in a Jar for the general method.

What You Need

  • Approximately 3 tablespoons / around 35g of French green lentils
  • A clean 500ml wide-mouth glass jar or suitable sprouter
  • A fine-mesh sprouting lid or draining screen
  • A draining stand, rack or bowl
  • Clean, drinking-quality water

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Clean your equipment: Wash your hands and thoroughly clean the jar, lid and utensils before starting.
  2. Measure the seed: Add approximately 3 tablespoons of French green lentils to a 500ml sprouting jar. Remove any visibly damaged or deteriorated seeds.
  3. Rinse and soak: Rinse thoroughly, then cover generously with clean drinking-quality water. Soak for approximately 10–12 hours.
  4. Drain thoroughly: Discard the soaking water, rinse again and allow the lentils to drain completely.
  5. Position for drainage: Keep the jar tilted with the opening facing downward so excess water can escape and air can circulate.
  6. Rinse regularly: Rinse and thoroughly drain the developing sprouts approximately 2–3 times each day.
  7. Maintain suitable conditions: Keep the jar in a well-ventilated position away from hot direct sunlight. A growing temperature of approximately 18–23°C is suitable.
  8. Watch the roots develop: Small white roots should appear relatively quickly and lengthen over the following days.
  9. Harvest: French green lentil sprouts are generally ready in approximately 2–4 days, depending on temperature and your preferred sprout length.

Tips for Best Results

  • Avoid overcrowding the jar.
  • Keep the lentils well drained between rinses.
  • Do not leave standing water around the developing sprouts.
  • Maintain good airflow.
  • Short sprouts generally provide the firmest, crunchiest texture.
  • Grow varieties with substantially different soaking or harvest times separately and combine them after harvest.
  • Discard sprouts that become slimy, show obvious mould or decay, or develop a sour, rotten or unusually musty smell.

Harvest & Storage

Give the finished sprouts a final thorough rinse and drain them as completely as practical.

Transfer the well-drained sprouts to a clean covered container and refrigerate promptly.

Use while fresh and discard them if their appearance, smell or texture deteriorates.

Food Safety

Raw sprouts can carry harmful bacteria even when carefully grown at home.

Always use clean equipment and drinking-quality water, maintain thorough drainage and refrigerate harvested sprouts promptly.

People at increased risk from foodborne illness, including pregnant women, young children, some older people and people with compromised immunity, should avoid raw or lightly cooked sprouts.

Thorough cooking reduces the food-safety risk associated with raw sprouts.
