Care information

Proper storage and handling can help maintain seed quality and germination performance. Keep seeds sealed, dry and protected from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.

Storage: For best long-term storage, keep seeds refrigerated in a clean, airtight container or securely sealed packaging. A refrigerator at approximately 4°C provides a cool, stable environment that can help maintain seed viability. If refrigeration is not practical, store seeds in the coolest available dry, dark and temperature-stable location.

Moisture: Keep seeds dry at all times during storage. Excess moisture or humidity can reduce seed quality and encourage premature germination, mould or deterioration. Always reseal opened packaging promptly.

Removing Seeds from Refrigeration: Keep refrigerated seeds sealed while they return to room temperature before opening the package or container. This helps prevent condensation from forming on cold seeds and introducing unwanted moisture.

Temperature: Avoid repeated temperature changes and do not store seeds near ovens, heaters, windows, vehicles, sheds or other areas exposed to excessive or fluctuating heat.

Handling: Use clean, dry utensils when removing seed from larger packs and return the remaining seed to refrigerated storage promptly after use.

Before Sowing or Sprouting: Inspect seeds before use and discard any showing signs of moisture damage, mould, unusual odour or deterioration. When growing edible sprouts or microgreens, use clean equipment and drinking-quality water.

Best Quality: Use seed while fresh and follow any product-specific storage, germination and growing information provided in the Specifications, growing instructions or product packaging.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your order size and weight, delivery address and available carrier services. We use Australia Post and other carriers to provide suitable delivery options and rates.

Dispatch

Orders are generally packed and dispatched within 0–2 business days (Monday–Friday), excluding public holidays and unusually busy periods.

Delivery Times

Delivery times begin from the date your order is dispatched. As a general guide, Australia Post Parcel Post usually takes 2–6 business days, while Express Post generally takes 1–3 business days where available.

Regional and remote destinations may take longer. Orders containing seed sent to Western Australia, Tasmania or other biosecurity-controlled destinations may also require additional processing or inspection.

Delivery estimates are provided as a guide only and can be affected by carrier delays, weather, peak periods and biosecurity requirements.

Tracking

All shipped orders include tracking. Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive an email with your tracking information so you can follow its progress.

Authority to Leave

Depending on the carrier and delivery service, your parcel may be left in a safe location if no one is available to receive it. You can provide delivery instructions during checkout where supported by the carrier; however, specific delivery requests cannot always be guaranteed.

Local Pickup – Riverstone, NSW

Local pickup can be selected at checkout when available. Please allow approximately 2–3 business days for your order to be prepared.

Please do not attend the warehouse without an appointment. All pickups are strictly by prior arrangement.

Seed Biosecurity – WA & Tasmania

Seeds and other plant material may be subject to state biosecurity restrictions.

Western Australia has specific entry requirements for seed, and seed consignments may be inspected by Quarantine WA. Tasmania also regulates the importation of viable seed, with additional requirements applying to certain species and consignments.

Requirements vary by seed species, quantity and destination and may change over time. Customers in Western Australia, Tasmania and other biosecurity-controlled areas should check current state requirements before ordering.

Where an order contains seed that cannot meet applicable biosecurity requirements, we may need to contact you before dispatch or remove affected products from the order.

Fenugreek Sprouting Seeds

Grow aromatic fenugreek sprouts in just a few days with Australian-grown fenugreek sprouting seeds. Bold curry-like flavour for salads, wraps and sprout mixes, with bulk sizes available Australia-wide.

Description

Fenugreek Sprouting Seeds for Aromatic, Crunchy Sprouts

Grow distinctive, aromatic sprouts at home with our fenugreek sprouting seeds. Also known as methi, fenugreek produces crisp young sprouts with an earthy, savoury flavour and characteristic curry-like aroma.

Fenugreek is well suited to indoor jar sprouting and is generally ready to harvest in approximately 2–6 days. Use a Glass Sprouting Jar or another suitable sprouter, with regular rinsing, thorough drainage and good airflow throughout the growing cycle.

Bold, Aromatic Fenugreek Sprouts

Fenugreek sprouts have a crisp texture and distinctive flavour that can be mildly bitter, earthy and aromatic. Their stronger character makes them particularly useful when you want a sprout with more flavour than mild varieties such as alfalfa.

Add freshly harvested fenugreek sprouts to salads, sandwiches, wraps and grain bowls, or use them as a fresh garnish for curries, dals, stir-fries and other savoury dishes.

For a milder combination, mix harvested fenugreek sprouts with Alfalfa Sprouting Seeds or other mild leafy sprouts.

Designed for Jar-Grown Fenugreek Sprouts

This product page is specifically focused on growing short fenugreek sprouts in a jar or sprouter. The seed is soaked first, then rinsed and thoroughly drained several times each day until crisp young shoots have developed.

If you want to grow larger leafy methi greens in trays, see Fenugreek Microgreen Seeds (Methi). The microgreen method uses a growing medium, blackout period, light and bottom watering and is harvested at a later stage than jar-grown sprouts.

Use Fenugreek Seeds as a Culinary Spice

Dry fenugreek seed also has established culinary uses beyond sprouting. The aromatic seeds can be used whole, lightly toasted or ground for curries, dals, pickles, chutneys, spice blends, vegetable dishes and breads.

Fenugreek has a concentrated flavour, so the dry seed is generally used in relatively small quantities as a seasoning rather than cooked as a pulse.

Home & Bulk Fenugreek Sprouting Seeds

OzSprout fenugreek sprouting seeds are available from 250g through to 20kg bulk quantities, making them suitable for home sprouters, regular growers, retailers, resellers and larger-volume users.

How to Grow Fenugreek Sprouts

Fenugreek is a fast-growing sprouting seed with a distinctive aromatic flavour. These instructions are specifically for growing short fenugreek sprouts in a jar or sprouter, rather than tray-grown fenugreek microgreens.

A clean Glass Sprouting Jar works well for fenugreek. If you are new to jar sprouting, see How to Grow Sprouts in a Jar for an overview of the basic method.

What You Need

  • Approximately 1.5 tablespoons / around 15g of fenugreek sprouting seed for a 500ml jar
  • A clean 500ml wide-mouth glass jar or suitable sprouter
  • A fine-mesh sprouting lid or draining screen
  • A draining stand, rack or bowl
  • Clean, drinking-quality water

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Clean your equipment: Wash your hands and thoroughly clean the jar, lid and any utensils before beginning.
  2. Measure the seed: Add approximately 1.5 tablespoons of dry fenugreek seed to a 500ml sprouting jar. Remove any visibly damaged or deteriorated seeds.
  3. Rinse and soak: Rinse the seed thoroughly, then cover generously with clean drinking-quality water. Soak for approximately 5–10 hours.
  4. Drain thoroughly: Empty the soaking water, rinse again and drain completely. Position the jar at a downward angle so excess water can escape while air circulates.
  5. Rinse regularly: Rinse and thoroughly drain the developing sprouts approximately 2–3 times each day. An additional rinse may sometimes be useful in warm conditions, but never leave the sprouts sitting in standing water.
  6. Allow the sprouts to develop: Keep the jar in a well-ventilated position away from hot direct sunlight. Continue rinsing and draining consistently as the roots and shoots develop.
  7. Green if preferred: Once the shoots are established, brief exposure to bright indirect light can encourage greener growth. Avoid excessive heat or prolonged direct sunlight.
  8. Harvest: Fenugreek sprouts are generally ready in approximately 2–6 days. Harvest when they are crisp and have reached the flavour and shoot length you prefer.

Tips for Best Results

  • Do not overcrowd the jar.
  • Keep the jar at a draining angle between rinses.
  • Thorough drainage is important after every rinse.
  • Maintain good airflow throughout the growing period.
  • Fenugreek naturally has a distinctive aromatic smell and mildly bitter flavour.
  • Taste the sprouts as they develop and harvest at the stage you prefer.
  • Discard sprouts that become slimy, show obvious mould or decay, or develop a sour, rotten or otherwise abnormal smell.

Fenugreek Sprouts vs Fenugreek Microgreens

These instructions are for jar-grown sprouts harvested at a young stage.

For larger leafy methi greens grown in a tray, use Fenugreek Microgreen Seeds (Methi). The microgreen method uses growing medium, a covered or blackout establishment period, light and bottom watering, with harvest generally occurring later than short sprouts.

Serving Ideas

Fenugreek sprouts have a stronger flavour than many leafy sprouts.

Try them:

  • In salads and grain bowls
  • In sandwiches and wraps
  • With curries and dals
  • In stir-fries and savoury dishes
  • Mixed after harvest with milder Alfalfa Sprouts

Harvest & Storage

Give the finished sprouts a final thorough rinse and drain them as completely as practical.

Transfer the well-drained sprouts to a clean covered container and refrigerate promptly.

Use while fresh and discard them if their appearance, texture or smell deteriorates.

Food Safety

Raw sprouts can carry harmful bacteria, and careful home-growing practices cannot guarantee that sprouts will be bacteria-free.

Always use clean equipment and drinking-quality water, maintain thorough drainage and refrigerate harvested sprouts promptly.

People at increased risk from foodborne illness, including pregnant women, young children, some older people and people with compromised immunity, should avoid raw or lightly cooked sprouts.

Thorough cooking reduces the food-safety risk associated with raw sprouts.
