Care information

Proper cleaning, drying and storage will help keep your sprouting equipment hygienic and in good working condition. Always follow any product-specific care instructions supplied with the item.

Cleaning: Wash reusable jars, trays, lids, screens and other growing components thoroughly before first use and after every crop. Use warm water and a mild detergent, then rinse well with clean water.

Sanitising: Equipment used for growing edible sprouts or microgreens should be sanitised regularly using a suitable food-contact sanitising method that is compatible with the product material. Rinse where required by the sanitiser instructions.

Drying: Allow all components to dry completely before reassembling or storing. Trapped moisture can encourage mould, odours and microbial growth.

During Growing: Keep drainage holes, mesh screens and ventilation areas clear so water can drain freely and air can circulate around the crop. Remove seed residue and organic matter between growing cycles.

Handling: Avoid abrasive scourers, harsh chemicals or excessive force that may scratch, warp or damage plastic, glass, mesh or other components. Do not expose equipment to high heat unless the product is specifically rated for it.

Inspection: Check reusable equipment regularly for cracks, chips, damaged screens, worn seals or other deterioration. Replace damaged components that can no longer be cleaned effectively or used safely.

Storage: Store clean, completely dry equipment in a dry, well-ventilated area away from excessive heat, direct sunlight and contamination.

Best Care: Product materials and cleaning requirements can vary, so follow any specific washing, dishwasher, temperature or maintenance instructions shown on the product packaging or product page.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your order size and weight, delivery address and available carrier services. We use Australia Post and other carriers to provide suitable delivery options and rates.

Dispatch

Orders are generally packed and dispatched within 0–2 business days (Monday–Friday), excluding public holidays and unusually busy periods.

Delivery Times

Delivery times begin from the date your order is dispatched. As a general guide, Australia Post Parcel Post usually takes 2–6 business days, while Express Post generally takes 1–3 business days where available.

Regional and remote destinations may take longer. Orders containing seed sent to Western Australia, Tasmania or other biosecurity-controlled destinations may also require additional processing or inspection.

Delivery estimates are provided as a guide only and can be affected by carrier delays, weather, peak periods and biosecurity requirements.

Tracking

All shipped orders include tracking. Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive an email with your tracking information so you can follow its progress.

Authority to Leave

Depending on the carrier and delivery service, your parcel may be left in a safe location if no one is available to receive it. You can provide delivery instructions during checkout where supported by the carrier; however, specific delivery requests cannot always be guaranteed.

Local Pickup – Riverstone, NSW

Local pickup can be selected at checkout when available. Please allow approximately 2–3 business days for your order to be prepared.

Please do not attend the warehouse without an appointment. All pickups are strictly by prior arrangement.

Seed Biosecurity – WA & Tasmania

Seeds and other plant material may be subject to state biosecurity restrictions.

Western Australia has specific entry requirements for seed, and seed consignments may be inspected by Quarantine WA. Tasmania also regulates the importation of viable seed, with additional requirements applying to certain species and consignments.

Requirements vary by seed species, quantity and destination and may change over time. Customers in Western Australia, Tasmania and other biosecurity-controlled areas should check current state requirements before ordering.

Where an order contains seed that cannot meet applicable biosecurity requirements, we may need to contact you before dispatch or remove affected products from the order.

Broccoli Sprout Grow Kit – 2 Glass Jars + 1kg Seeds

Grow fresh broccoli sprouts at home with two reusable glass sprouting jars and 1kg of New Zealand broccoli seed, allowing you to stagger batches for regular harvests.

Description

Complete Broccoli Sprout Grow Kit for Home Sprouting

Start growing fresh broccoli sprouts at home with the Broccoli Sprout Grow Kit. The kit combines two reusable glass sprouting jars with mesh straining lids and 1kg of New Zealand broccoli sprouting seed, providing the core equipment and seed needed for simple soil-free sprouting.

Using two jars allows you to grow two batches at once or stagger your growing cycles. Start the first jar, then begin the second a few days later to spread your harvests across the week.

Everything You Need to Start Growing Broccoli Sprouts

The kit includes:

  • 2 × reusable glass sprouting jars
  • 2 × mesh straining lids
  • 1kg New Zealand broccoli sprouting seed

The supplied seed is the New Zealand Calabrese/Bullet variety also available separately as our Broccoli Sprouting Seeds.

Grow Fresh Broccoli Sprouts in Around 5–6 Days

Broccoli is particularly well suited to jar sprouting. The small seeds are soaked for approximately 4 hours, then rinsed and thoroughly drained several times each day. Under suitable conditions, fresh sprouts with a mild, clean and slightly peppery brassica flavour are generally ready to harvest in approximately 5–6 days.

No soil or growing medium is required. The mesh lids allow water to be added and drained directly through the jars, while positioning the jars at a downward angle between rinses helps excess water escape and maintains airflow around the developing sprouts.

For detailed growing instructions, see our How to Grow Broccoli Sprouts in 5 Easy Steps guide.

Two Jars for Staggered Harvests

The two-jar setup is useful if you want a more regular supply rather than having one larger crop ready at once. Begin the second jar approximately 2–3 days after the first, then clean and restart each jar after harvest to maintain an overlapping growing cycle.

Reusable for Other Sprouting Seeds

The glass jars can also be used for many other suitable non-mucilaginous sprouting seeds, including alfalfa, radish, red clover, fenugreek, lentils, mung beans and peas. Adjust seed quantity, soaking time and harvest period according to the variety being grown.

If you would like additional jars for running more batches at once, see our Glass Sprouting Jar.

Mucilaginous seeds such as chia, cress and linseed form a gel when wet and are generally better suited to an appropriate tray-growing method rather than a draining jar.

How to Grow Broccoli Sprouts with Your Kit

The two-jar system allows you to grow one batch at a time or stagger two batches for a more regular supply of fresh broccoli sprouts.

What You Need

  • Broccoli Sprout Grow Kit
  • Clean drinking-quality water
  • A bowl, rack or suitable surface to collect drainage from each jar
  • Clean container for refrigerating harvested sprouts

Seed Quantity

Use approximately 1.5 tablespoons (around 15g) of broccoli seed per jar.

Broccoli produces a substantial volume of sprouts from a relatively small amount of seed, so avoid overcrowding the jars.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Clean your equipment: Wash your hands, glass jar and mesh lid thoroughly before beginning.
  2. Measure the seed: Add approximately 1.5 tablespoons or 15g of broccoli seed to the jar.
  3. Rinse: Add clean, cool drinking-quality water, gently swirl the seeds and drain through the mesh lid.
  4. Soak: Refill the jar with enough clean water to generously cover the seeds and soak for approximately 4 hours.
  5. Drain thoroughly: Pour away all soaking water through the mesh lid.
  6. Rinse again: Add fresh water, gently swirl and drain completely.
  7. Position for drainage: Leave the jar upside down at an angle over a bowl, rack or suitable draining surface.
  8. Rinse regularly: Rinse and drain thoroughly approximately 2–3 times each day.
  9. Maintain airflow: Keep the jar angled between rinses so excess water can escape and the developing sprouts are not sitting in pooled water.
  10. Provide suitable conditions: Keep the jar away from hot direct sunlight. A growing temperature of approximately 15–29°C is suitable for the current broccoli seed.
  11. Allow the sprouts to develop: Continue rinsing and draining as the roots and cotyledons develop.
  12. Green the sprouts: Once the cotyledons begin opening, place the jar in bright indirect light to encourage greener leaves.
  13. Harvest: Broccoli sprouts are generally ready in approximately 5–6 days.
  14. Final rinse: Rinse the finished sprouts thoroughly and drain well before refrigeration.

Staggering the Two Jars

For a more regular supply:

  1. Start the first jar normally.
  2. Wait approximately 2–3 days.
  3. Start the second jar.
  4. Harvest the first jar when ready.
  5. Clean and dry it thoroughly.
  6. Begin another batch while the second jar continues growing.

This creates overlapping growing cycles rather than having both jars ready for harvest at the same time.

Using the Jars for Other Seeds

The jars can also be used for suitable non-mucilaginous sprouting seeds such as:

  • Alfalfa
  • Radish
  • Red clover
  • Fenugreek
  • Lentils
  • Mung beans
  • Peas
  • Other suitable sprouting seeds

Always adjust the seed quantity, soak time, rinse frequency and harvest stage for the particular variety being grown.

Food Safety

Raw sprouts can carry harmful bacteria even when grown carefully.

  • Wash hands and equipment thoroughly before handling seeds or sprouts.
  • Use clean drinking-quality water.
  • Drain thoroughly after every rinse.
  • Do not allow sprouts to sit in standing water.
  • Keep equipment and surrounding surfaces clean.
  • Refrigerate harvested sprouts promptly at 5°C or below.
  • Discard sprouts that become slimy, unusually discoloured or develop an unpleasant odour.
  • People at increased risk of foodborne illness should avoid eating raw or lightly cooked sprouts. Thorough cooking provides the lowest food-safety risk.

Cleaning After Harvest

After each batch:

  1. Remove all remaining sprouts, hulls and seeds.
  2. Wash the jar and mesh lid thoroughly.
  3. Rinse well with clean water.
  4. Allow all components to dry completely before storage or beginning another crop.
