Care information

Proper storage and handling can help maintain seed quality and germination performance. Keep seeds sealed, dry and protected from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.

Storage: For best long-term storage, keep seeds refrigerated in a clean, airtight container or securely sealed packaging. A refrigerator at approximately 4°C provides a cool, stable environment that can help maintain seed viability. If refrigeration is not practical, store seeds in the coolest available dry, dark and temperature-stable location.

Moisture: Keep seeds dry at all times during storage. Excess moisture or humidity can reduce seed quality and encourage premature germination, mould or deterioration. Always reseal opened packaging promptly.

Removing Seeds from Refrigeration: Keep refrigerated seeds sealed while they return to room temperature before opening the package or container. This helps prevent condensation from forming on cold seeds and introducing unwanted moisture.

Temperature: Avoid repeated temperature changes and do not store seeds near ovens, heaters, windows, vehicles, sheds or other areas exposed to excessive or fluctuating heat.

Handling: Use clean, dry utensils when removing seed from larger packs and return the remaining seed to refrigerated storage promptly after use.

Before Sowing or Sprouting: Inspect seeds before use and discard any showing signs of moisture damage, mould, unusual odour or deterioration. When growing edible sprouts or microgreens, use clean equipment and drinking-quality water.

Best Quality: Use seed while fresh and follow any product-specific storage, germination and growing information provided in the Specifications, growing instructions or product packaging.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your order size and weight, delivery address and available carrier services. We use Australia Post and other carriers to provide suitable delivery options and rates.

Dispatch

Orders are generally packed and dispatched within 0–2 business days (Monday–Friday), excluding public holidays and unusually busy periods.

Delivery Times

Delivery times begin from the date your order is dispatched. As a general guide, Australia Post Parcel Post usually takes 2–6 business days, while Express Post generally takes 1–3 business days where available.

Regional and remote destinations may take longer. Orders containing seed sent to Western Australia, Tasmania or other biosecurity-controlled destinations may also require additional processing or inspection.

Delivery estimates are provided as a guide only and can be affected by carrier delays, weather, peak periods and biosecurity requirements.

Tracking

All shipped orders include tracking. Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive an email with your tracking information so you can follow its progress.

Authority to Leave

Depending on the carrier and delivery service, your parcel may be left in a safe location if no one is available to receive it. You can provide delivery instructions during checkout where supported by the carrier; however, specific delivery requests cannot always be guaranteed.

Local Pickup – Riverstone, NSW

Local pickup can be selected at checkout when available. Please allow approximately 2–3 business days for your order to be prepared.

Wait until we contact you to confirm that your order is ready and arrange a suitable collection time.

Please do not attend the warehouse without an appointment. All pickups are strictly by prior arrangement.

Seed Biosecurity – WA & Tasmania

Seeds and other plant material may be subject to state biosecurity restrictions.

Western Australia has specific entry requirements for seed, and seed consignments may be inspected by Quarantine WA. Tasmania also regulates the importation of viable seed, with additional requirements applying to certain species and consignments.

Requirements vary by seed species, quantity and destination and may change over time. Customers in Western Australia, Tasmania and other biosecurity-controlled areas should check current state requirements before ordering.

Where an order contains seed that cannot meet applicable biosecurity requirements, we may need to contact you before dispatch or remove affected products from the order.

Broccoli Sprouting Seeds

Grow fresh broccoli sprouts in 5–6 days with untreated broccoli sprouting seeds. Choose NZ Calabrese/Bullet or Australian Green Sprouting varieties in home and bulk sizes.

Description

Broccoli Sprouting Seeds for Fresh Home-Grown Sprouts

Grow fresh, crisp broccoli sprouts at home with our broccoli sprouting seeds. These untreated seeds are suitable for year-round indoor sprouting and produce tender sprouts with a mild, fresh and slightly peppery brassica flavour.

Broccoli is well suited to jar sprouting and can be grown using a glass sprouting jar or another purpose-built sprouter. Under suitable conditions, sprouts are generally ready to harvest in around 5–6 days.

Choose Your Broccoli Sprouting Seed Variety

New Zealand Calabrese/Bullet – Type 1

New Zealand-grown Calabrese/Bullet broccoli seed with a current germination rate of 90%. This established variety is available in convenient home packs as well as larger quantities for regular sprouters and commercial users.

Australian Green Sprouting – Type 2

Australian-grown Green Sprouting broccoli seed with a current germination rate of 95%. Choose this variety if you prefer Australian-grown broccoli sprouting seeds while using the same straightforward jar-sprouting method.

Fresh, Mild & Slightly Peppery

Fresh broccoli sprouts have a crisp texture and a clean, mildly peppery flavour. They can be added to sandwiches, wraps, salads and grain bowls, or used as a fresh garnish for savoury dishes.

Create Your Own Sprouting Seed Mix

Broccoli can also be combined with compatible small-seeded sprouting varieties. Try pairing it with mild alfalfa sprouting seeds or more peppery daikon radish sprouting seeds to create blends with different flavours and textures.

When combining varieties, begin with a small test batch and avoid overcrowding the jar, as individual seeds can germinate and develop at slightly different rates.

Home Packs & Bulk Broccoli Sprouting Seeds

OzSprout broccoli sprouting seeds are available in convenient home-growing packs through to bulk quantities for frequent sprouters, retailers, resellers and commercial growers across Australia.

How to Grow Broccoli Sprouts

Broccoli sprouts can be grown indoors throughout the year using a clean Glass Sprouting Jar or purpose-built sprouter. Regular rinsing, thorough drainage and good airflow are important for consistent, even growth.

If you are new to sprouting, the Broccoli Sprouts Guide provides additional information on growing, harvesting, storage and troubleshooting.

What You Need

  • Approximately 1.5 tablespoons of broccoli sprouting seed for a 500ml jar
  • A clean 500ml wide-mouth Glass Sprouting Jar or purpose-built sprouter
  • A fine-mesh sprouting lid or suitable draining screen
  • A draining stand, rack or bowl
  • Clean, drinking-quality water

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Clean your equipment: Wash your hands and thoroughly clean the jar, lid and any utensils before beginning.
  2. Measure the seed: Add approximately 1.5 tablespoons of dry broccoli sprouting seed to a 500ml jar. Avoid overcrowding because the seeds expand considerably as they germinate.
  3. Rinse and soak: Rinse the seeds thoroughly with clean drinking-quality water, then cover them generously with fresh water and soak for approximately 4 hours.
  4. Drain thoroughly: Empty the soaking water, rinse the seeds again and drain completely. Position the jar at an angle with the opening facing downward so excess water can escape while air continues to circulate.
  5. Rinse regularly: Rinse and drain the sprouts 2–4 times daily. Morning and evening are a practical minimum under many conditions, with additional rinsing sometimes useful during warmer weather. Always drain thoroughly after each rinse.
  6. Allow the sprouts to develop: Keep the jar in a well-ventilated position away from hot direct sunlight. Do not allow standing water to collect in the bottom of the jar.
  7. Green the sprouts: As the seed leaves develop, expose the sprouts to bright indirect light before harvest to encourage a greener colour. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight or excessive heat.
  8. Harvest: Broccoli sprouts are typically ready after approximately 5–6 days, depending on temperature and growing conditions. Harvest when they are fresh, crisp and have reached your preferred size.

Tips for Best Results

  • Do not overcrowd the jar. Adequate space improves drainage and airflow.
  • Keep the jar tilted between rinses so excess moisture can continue to drain.
  • Avoid leaving standing water in the bottom of the jar.
  • Maintain good airflow, particularly during warm or humid weather.
  • Fine white root hairs can appear around broccoli sprout roots and may look like fuzz. They often become much less visible immediately after rinsing. See Mould vs Root Hairs on Sprouts & Microgreens if you are unsure what you are seeing.
  • Discard sprouts that become slimy, unusually discoloured, decayed or develop an unpleasant sour, rotten or strongly musty smell.

Harvest & Storage

Give the finished sprouts a final thorough rinse and drain them as completely as practical.

For an easy method of removing loose seed hulls, washing the finished crop and preparing sprouts for refrigeration, see How to Harvest, Wash & Store Sprouts After Growing.

Transfer the well-drained sprouts to a clean covered container and refrigerate promptly. Use harvested sprouts while fresh and discard them if their appearance, texture or smell deteriorates.

Food Safety

Raw sprouts can carry harmful bacteria, and careful home-growing practices cannot guarantee that sprouts will be bacteria-free. Always use clean equipment and drinking-quality water, maintain thorough drainage and refrigerate harvested sprouts promptly.

People at increased risk from foodborne illness, including pregnant women, young children, some older people and people with compromised immunity, should avoid raw or lightly cooked sprouts. Thorough cooking reduces the food-safety risk associated with sprouts.
